So, did I buy a dead cpu?
I am trying to slap together a cheap pc for my sis to use. All she does is chat, email, etc. Well, anyway....I bought a PCChips M825 mobo (includes video), 400watt psu, AMD XP1900+, and 256mb DDR ram, and a CPU Cooler Fan + Heatsink with Alarm for AMD up to 2700+
Well, I put the darned thing together, and all fans work, I can hear the hard drive start, but I hear no beeps and get no signal to my monitor. Is this a dead cpu?
Thanks for any advice.

try Re-seating everything. Also, make sure in the bios that the video is enabled and not disabled by accident (intended to be used if using AGP video card).

Also, some mobos come with the CMOS reset jumper in the reset position. Unfortunately, the only way to determine if the CPU is bad is to ensure that everthing else is good. Do you have another mobo to check it in?

Yes, I have about 3 mobo's laying around, lol. I tried on a couple of those, also....same results.
I finally took my pc apart, and stuck the cpu into it. Same thing. So, I bought a dead cpu Now for the hassle of RMA'ing it.
Thanks you two, for the help |

To the 'DOH!' comment. I assume that you are saying I should have put it into my own pc first, before coming here to ask?
The reason I didn't, is because I have one of those heatsinks that can very easily damage my cpu when TRYING to take it off, or put it back on. I didn't want to destroy my own pc, by checking to see if this cpu worked, you know? |
