The FX series suck until you get to the 5900. Get the ti4200. It should overclock pretty nicely.

Compared to the ATI cards they suck... But i'd go for a 5600 over a Ti4200... DX8 might be SLIGHTLY faster with the 4200, but there is no comparison when you starty going to DX9 games.

However, a Radeon 9600 Pro or XT would get my vote for any of the ones mentioned sofar.

Yeah, unless you are a diehard nVidia fan(pity da f00) go for an ATI card.

Have you looked at the new 5700 boards? They're probably your best bet in the under $200 range if you just HAVE to go Nvidia.

They're brand new and Inno might not have their version out yet. From the ratings I've seen they're a good successor to the 4200 boards(finally).

If you're talking non-ultra boards, just bite the bullet and get a ATI 9600 or 9500 if you can find one.

Although I agree that the FX series suck (I owned two, a 5200 and a 5600), I'd have to say that the 5700 looks impressive. I've never owned one, but the benchmarks I've seen it comes at around the same, if not better, as the 9600 XT. So if you're an nVidia fan, I say go for that one.

If you wouldn't mind ATi, I say Radeon 9600 Pro. I have it, and it overclocks very well. Look for an article here by poopeyhead2 (I think). He did a really good overclock with a 9600 Pro.
