Systems Need Help Installing My A7N8X Deluxe!

Hi Everyone!

I need your expertise on this. I just purchased a brand new tower, power supply, mobo, and processor. Here is what they are:

mobo - ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
power supply - Thermaltake 480W
tower - Thermaltake Skull VM3000A
processor - AMD 3000+

Anyways, I got this nice rig to set up, but I purchased this overseas since there are no computer shops nearby for me to take it to have it done the "professional" way.

I'm looking at my mobo and power supply, and it looks very, very difficult. I've only set up one mobo before, and that was 5 years ago!

So, could anyone here point me in the right direction as to setting this up properly? For instance, any site I could visit and see a step by step guide to setting up this particular mobo with this power source?

I would appreciate any help! Thank you.

You got a manual with it correct and a quick help guide right? They are pretty easy to follow however not very straight foreword.

You got DDR memory modules, video card, floppy, cd-roms etc to go with it right?

my advice is to just read the manual before you start, asus provides good ones and if you understand that you should have no problem setting your system up. GOOD LUCK

See, that's why I love this board.

But yes, I am reading the manual right now. It's just that this power supply has about 20+ plugs sticking out of it, and I'm trying to get them all in the right spots.

Also, my tower has 5 or 6 fans built into it, and each fan has like 2 power things sticking out. Like, one's an 'innie' port and one's an 'outtie' port, know what I'm saying?

How do I connect these properly? I'd like to get as much cooling power possible.

IThanks for any future help.

Case fans often have more than one plug for a variety of reasons. One is that not all mobos have enough connectors to power all the fans you may use. The smaller, three pronged connectors will be to connect directly to the fan ports on the mobo ( see mobo manual for their locations).

The bigger, four prong plugs (molex connectors) will connect directly to the power supply, to the same kind of adaptor that the hard drives / CD-ROM's are powered with. Some fans don't need this power connector plugged in if you use the mobo fan ports. You also might need what is called a molex or power splitter (or maybe even more than one) if you need more molex connectors than come with the power supply.

However, some case fans have light diodes and stuff which need extra juice, more than many mobo fan ports will provide. They won't work properly until you plug in the four prong (molex) connector.

My suggestion? Try using only he mobo fan port plug for a single fan and see if it works. If it doesn't, it needs the molex as well.

Hope this helps. It's daunting to do a build when you haven't for a long while. Take your time, read everything thoroughly, and ask as many questions here as you need to.

That's what we like to do here - help.

Cheers
Mick
