Kids Prob with Wireless network using Airport card on imac

Need your help!! Trying to get an imac running on a wireless network. The imac is @4yrs old and running on osx 10.2 + os. Got the stuff from newegg and using a netgear cable/dls 54 Mbps wireless router WGR614 v2. Was told by the folks at apple that all that was needed was an airport card. Netgear is supposed to work with apple os. The imac cannot detect the network. The antena is plugged into the card and the card is correctly seated in the slot.

Talked to the apple techs and they said it's a hardward conflict, interesting they also don't really support the airport card either. Netgear won't support the airport issue because the network itself is working fine with the windows based pcs and the print server (netgear ps101) is working fine.

Has anyone ever set up an airport card on an imac? Need some help or links, discussion forums for further study. Never even got to the CD that came with the card. From the few sites I've found it appears that the os is new enough that it is already prepared to set up a wireless network. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'll need to check to see if these are turned on. As I'm unfamiliar with mac products, can you tell me where to check. Is there something similar to a control pannel? The machine is about 200 miles away from me and I'll be driving out there to check on everything. Thanks.

Okay, will do. I'd imagine that all is okay with the router as I also installed a Compac lappy running windows xp home, another pc running me, and a netgear print server. All the windows based products are running fine - only the imac with a problem. Thanks.
