Need help using 9800AIW

I just bought a Radeon 9800 All in Wonder, but I am having trouble getting the AIW features to work. I have it hooked up to my cable connection though the coax connection, and a VCR through the a/v input. I then have it connected to my TV through the a/v out. I can get the cable and VCR to work, and it shows up on my TV fine. Although I can’t figure out how to get it to record. I want to be able to set it to record TV shows and to be able to record my VHS tapes to the hard drive. When I have it playing I have tried pressing the record button on the remote, but it comes up with small icon of a button with an X through it. It will let me select the input, and pause live TV, but it won’t let me record to a file so I can burn it to a DVD. I can change the record format, but it won’t let me record. I have read though the manual that comes with it, but it doesn’t help at all. I was wondering if there was a guide some ware for this card.

Thanks,

Mike Sanfil

Hey Mike,

I have the 9700 AIW...not sure if everything is the same or not, but are you using the ATI Multimedia Center software? If so, have you tried pressing the record button on the control panel? It looks like an icon of a video camera. If you right-click on it you can set up the recording schedule or left clicking starts recording until you tell it to stop (or run out of hd space). Also, do you have the properties for recording set up to a large enough space on the hard drive? If not, it will not let you record...you actually have to allocate space on the hard drive for the purpose of recording. Also, if you have the interactive program guide with your software package, you can use that as a quick and easy way to schedule recordings.

Do you have everything installed correctly? You have the Windows Media Encoder software installed? Did you check the recording setup?

Not sure, and what is the "Windows Media Encoder"?

There are two prerequisites for MMC., DAO/MDAC and Windows Media Encoder 9.0 (available here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx).

You must have the encoder to be able to record correctly.
