Refresh rate problem

Ok, So I downloaded a refrresh rate program that locks my fps to 100. Well anyways, I think I locked my FPS to something too high, and now my monitor wont work. It works while entering BIOS and stuff, but it just sort of shuts down right before its entering Windows. Help?

What operating system are you using?

If it's Windows XP, just hit F8 repeatedly as the computer boots until the boot select screen shows up. Then select "VGA mode" for the boot mode, and hit enter.

Once the system boots, reset your refresh rate to something more realistic, like 72Hz or 75Hz.

If that doesn't work, select "Safe Mode" and then reset the refresh rate.

Or use a lower resolution like 1024x768.

get it into safe mode... remove the program or drop the refresh rate to 75Hz, then reboot. You should be fine. F8 usually does the trick getting you to the boot menu.

how do you change your refresh rate?

forgive me for being stupid, but ive never done this before, and my interest is now piqued.

Right now my refresh rate is 60Hz

Most monitors can't go up to 100Hz refresh rate at higher resolutions, which is OK since your eyes pretty much can't tell the difference beyond 72Hz.

As long as the video card can supply more frames/second than the monitor can display (100fps with 85Hz refresh rate), then you should have a smooth gaming experience.

I would just set the monitor to the highest refresh rate that it will take at whatever resolution you're running, and go with that.

I'm running a Samsung 955DF, 1280x960 @ 75Hz, with a Radeon 9200 128Mb DDR. I play games like MOH, BF1942, Quake III Arena, and all of them play great

to change refresh rate..right click the screen...properties, settings, advanced, adapter...then you may see refresh rate or possibly "list all modes". I have seen some comps where you can only see refresh rate adjustments in safe mode. (<----98se). I am thinking with XP it would be "list all modes"

usually you want it at least at 70hz..60 hz is just way too much noticeable "flicker".
