Battlefield 1942

I am very interested in buying this game, but not sure how good it is. Also, if anyone owns it or has played it, can you use a wheel for flying, or do you use keyboard or control pad?

Logitech WingMan Formula GP Wheel, 4buttons and 2 padels behind wheel + throttle pedal and brake pedal
also have 2 button control pad

any info on the performance of this game would be greatly appreciated, I can always look it up, but some real feed back is always the best....!!!

a guy at work uses a wheel for flying, he would have it hooked up and run around with the keyboard and mouse. when he jumped into the plane he would switch the wheel

i use a joystick to fly planes. and keyboard mouse for everything else.

The game is kind of a beast to run, but i can get by on my ti4200.


Its fun, lots of excellent mods like Desert Combat, and Eve of Destruction (Vietnam). You wont be disapointed until you see EA's crappy patches, but if you put that aside, it is a very solid game.

i get by on my xp1800+ and gf4 mx440 and 512 ram

i use keyboard and mouse for everything

great multiplayer, kinda lame singleplayer (multiplayer with all bots)

great overall game

yeah, looked it up, biggest downfall i saw was the single player and people said not to update with the patches, that without them you don't have the mess ups...not sure if the patches are mandetory or not...

I've been thinking of buying this game also, but was holding off until I finished Call of Duty.
(BTW- Call of Duty is an awesome game, much better than Medal of Honor- IMHO)

I've got a question about the single player in BF1942:

It's all bots, I got that- but...

Do you control/issue orders to your squadmates like in Ghost Recon, or do they follow you along like in Call of Duty?

I liked how my squadmates followed me around in COD, but thought they were a bit gung-ho in some areas. Many times they died rushing out into battle, while I kinda hung back and camped out with my sniper rifle...

ummm...the bots just do whatever they want. If they feel like standing there, they will. Keep them away from helicopters in DC......dear god, keep them away. The bots are pointless....you basically win singlehandedly. They are only there in spirit. Basically, SP sucks ass......

yea, basically picture muliplayer with incompetent teammates... dont get in any vehicle with them... better yet, just dont play single player... but the multiplayer makes up for it

i play it all with WASD and Mouse, also flying, it's quite easy after a while, and the Desert Combat mod is really awsome, if you get Battlefield get this mod too, it's totally different!
