Talk HAHAHA, my school netowork was attacked!

Man this is funny, for 2 weeks my schools netowrk has been download becasue of a server exploit attack. The administrators are assuming that in one of the programming classes, a student had made a modified version of the MS Blast worm to exploit the schools proxy server. They said that the worm was made to send out 4 million requests to the proxy server every second, the schools proxy server is an 8-way server only capable of taking in 10,000 request. So the other part of the 4 million request was just ignored. Now what really messed up the netowrk is that, the worm was able to work inself to all the other computers in the school(About 2000) and infect them. So thats 4 million requests, from 2000 computers every second being sent through the netowrk. And of course there were MAJOR collisions causing the whole netowrk to crash. The school has been working ont his for over two weeks and still havn't been able to remove the worm from the netowrk. They clean every computer of the worm, but as soon as they turn on a section of the netowrk, the worm shows up again, and infect every computer again connected tot hat part of the network.

Hahahahahah!!! Man, were progress reports delayed And missing grades as well on them as teachers couldn't get to Grade check located on one of the school servers(Which i might be glad that it happened)

I would suspect that you would need some know how to execute that. Do you think it is someone you know. I would blame the admins for having bad passwords. The admin at my school has a really bad password. only myself and my best friend know it to the best of my knowlege.

Actually it doesnt seem all that funny---who do you think will have to pay to fix this little "prank" and how much can you imagine it will cost to straighten things out so it wont happen again?

Yeah, plus its gotta be a pain in the butt for you computer students. You are all probably gonna get blamed for it. And you wont be able to go on the computers until they fix em up.

Well, actually if it is a variant of blaster, than you should blame lax security as they should have shored up access to rpc by now. There is no reason for port 135 to be open on a network like that, especially not on 2000 machines.

Now, i dont know how funny that is as someone is in hot water as far as his job is concerned....and 2 weeks is a joke. They need to just take the weekend and take EVERY machine off of the network, clean them all, and then put each one on individually.

Now, whoever wrote it better hope they dont track down the origin as he will be in a bit of trouble.

If it was a form of the blaster worm that takes advantage of the RPC hole that microsoft sent out the patch for more than 7 months ago, why did the worm work in the first place? The school admins should have patched all the computers by now right?

If that is the case, then the Admins are to blame in this situation.

Bad passwords...haha. At our high school (largest in the state I think), we obtained an admin's username...just playing around we tried 'admin' for the passwords and ta-da!
