Web Cams ??

Hi, I hope someone can help me??
I am going to need to set up a web cam so as I can communicate with friends in Australia. I presume with this I will be able to 'real time chat' ??
What's the best web cam to opt for?
Any help and/or advice would be appreciated !!
Cheers, CR.x.

I really like the Logitech Cams and they seem to be the most popular. I like the Quick Cam Pro serries as they have a good mic built into them. The regular serries seems just about as good but there isnt a mic and to be honest my friends cam seems to have less color detail then mine but I coudlnt tell you to be honest.

The Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 is an awesome camera..

I've been using it for 4 months now and no problems.. the other "cheaper" ones are to slow.

Yep if you have a DSL line you should be good. The more bandwidth you have the better You can do it on dial up but its more of a slide show with some sound clips. Dont expect flawless connection. Sometimes its good sometimes its not... just dependings on the routing and the routers work loads at the time

also set up a constant color for a background This will make it easier for the camera signal (basically if nothing changes the cameras (i believe) transmit the same image.. SO constant background color = less data transmission = faster web cam'ing... NOw i heard that somewhere can someone confirm??

Thanks guys, you've been a great help.
I have 600k broadband so I should be OK...dont know what the guys in Oz will have, but guess that if they want to video chat they'd better get the best that's available!

Sixpac........ thanks for that logitec link...it's got some good info!

I went out and bought the cheapest webcam I could find, a Veo Stingray ($15 after the $10 rebate) and it has worked flawlessly. I use Yahoo! messenger for my video conferencing, and I used to have a dialup! Once you get used to the lag it's not that bad, considering what you're able to do.
