Help No Icons... nothing works??

Hi, this is an urgent message! I have Win XP on and HP laptop. I was working in Photoshop just using the program and all of a sudden it had the "blue screen of death" and restarted. When it loaded back up none of the icons show up and nothing loads in the system tray. I try to start anything other than the directories and nothing works??!?!? Please help !!!!! I tried to do Reg cleaner but that didn't do anything and I can't get the virus scan to work. I tried to get to sys. restore but it doesn't work?!? Thanks for your help!

Nick

Boot into safe mode via the F8 key and select Last Known Good Configuration..(something to that effect)

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
'Last known good configuration' will NOT help at that point anymore. The computer has been succesfully booted after failure, and it will do nothing.

Thanks for the help I was able to get to safe mode and then do a system restore. When it rebooted to finish the restore it sat there so I forced a reboot. Then I went back to safe mode thinking it didn't work but it actually restored it. Gotta love windows... ::rolling eyes:: Anyways, everythings back to normal. Thanks again.

I recently had the same problem on a pc, and it turns out the video card supports 2 monitors, and the os's "desktop"(all icons) had been moved to the secondary video card, but the system still saw the primary vid card as having the os's desktop upon boot-up.

Right click on the blank desktop, properties, settings, and see if two monitors show up. If not, your search for answers continue...

EDIT: FORGET IT, YOU'RE DONE.

Yeah that's no where near the problem I had but I've experienced something like that too.
