looking for some help...

hello all, im new to the forum.

im having some trouble with a pc i just had built.

currently, there is nothing on the hard disk, freshly reformatted. the boot disk is set to the cd drive inside of which is a windows XP install cd.

when i start up the box a prompt reading "Press any key to boot from CD..." appears.

if i press it, i get to the windows installer setup screen. if i try to install windows i get to the license agreement where i have to press F8 to accept. only problem is, none of the F# buttons work. ive tried 3 keyboards, usb and serial. the F keys dont work in the BIOS of anywhere else i can get myself into.

ok, back to the prompt reading "Press any key to boot from CD..." appears.

if i press nothing, after a few seconds two more lines of text comes up... the first says "NTLDR is missing" followed by "Press ctrl+Alt+del to restart"

ive tried various repair tools, tried reformatting, and nothing works. i dont know which problem to attack first, the F keys not working or the NTLDR problem.

if you are gracious enough to try and help me out, please dumb everything down a little bit. ill be watching this post so if theres any information that would help you help me shoot away and you should get a near immediate response.

thanks in advance.

KT4V

The only thing I can think for starters is to go into the bios and try to load the "failsafe" or "default" bios options....see if that changes the situation.

hmm, or, you might try to flash to the newest bios....I see an issue listed on their site that could be related.

about 3 bioses ago it listed this problem

"Fixed D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode."

maybe that is related?

you ever flashed a bios before? its not real hard but if you mess up it can render the board useless.
