Media require assistance

I am trying to use an old mic i have from when i first bought my last pc, a dell dimension desktop. I have no idea who made this mic nor do i have any idea of what drivers to install. Is there any utility to check for this kind of thing?

you mean a microphone ?

If you are just going to use it for msn chat and stuff like that I dont think there are any drivers. You just hook it to the mic in jack.

you might have to right click the vol control and do "open volume controls" and see if the "line in" or "mic in" are muted or turned all the way down.

I think you surely need a somewhat sound card to provides you to use a microphone. With the correct soundcard (dont ask me which ), i think a tab for mic will be available.

You might wanna ask the shop for info.

its plugged into a "microphone" jack?

when you right clicked volume did you see a "microphone" vol slider? If not you may have to add it by doing "options"/"properties" and then adding the "microphone" vol slider.

Try a newer microphone there as well and also try that older mic on another computer. If it works on another computer, may very well be that your soundcard is very sketchy/shoddy/cheap(not as in price, but as in quality).

Computer I have cannot use any microphone input even though it has a jack for it because of stupid, cheap soundcard which is soldered onto the motherboard, BTW.
