Gaming be aware !

everyone currently running windows XP "home, professional" or just win 2000
attention

while browsing the net... or just plain chatting on trillian with friends, i got this window pop up!

it read "do you want to install and run --nCase - your little search assistant ad destroyer.............. from "Spyware Labs inc."

one, then two...... and three... and before i knew it... i'd say 100's of windows flooded my screen.

after rebooting, i purposely terminated "iexplorer and explorer" process using the TaskManager to prevent this... just as test..... and WOW...

it happened again. the second time it said
"DO you want to win a 1,000,000 dollars?" and right after that, the first Popup flooded my screen again.

Possible Virus activity?

Sure sounds like spyware!
I would download/run Adaware and Spybot ASAP!
#'s 3 and 6 here: http://download.com.com/3101-2001-0-1.html?tag=dir
Make sure you get the updates before scanning.

nCase is aware and can be removed by ad-aware. but they offen code it into the software that you may have running on your system and make it not work corretly. Also it likes to reinstall itself after it has been removed.

My guess is the Windows Messenger service. Little gray box with just an OK button?

Go into computer management, services and applications, stop the messenger service, then right click, selct properties and change startup type to disabled. Reboot.

Then GET A FIREWALL!

kill it with adaware (www.lavasoft.de) or spybot (can't remember link)

Thats your best option to get rid of it.
