Anyone know anything about installing apps

I got myself a brand spankin' new Dell (8500 with WinXP) in September. Runs like a breeze with everything. I get up to school and go to our engineering computer center and pick up a copy of the latest MATLAB disk. I knew we would get a new copy of it so I didn't bother to install this before. I pop the disk and and install it. I try to start up MATLAB and I get the splash screen with the logo, version and liscence info. Then that screen goes away and suddenly there is nothing. I look in the processes and there is no sign of MATLAB at all. This is MATLAB R12 I think. I'll check when I get home to my laptop. Anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong?

were you able to check accepting the licence? Sometimes the default is NO.

Your Dell 8500, isn't that a laptop?
Here's a link to MATLAB requirements:
http://www.mathworks.com/products/system.shtml/Windows These requirements are written around R13, but should be close to what R12 required.

Java conflict maybe?

Indeed. I have run this version of matlab on a lot less powerful laptops. I had it on an Insperon 8100 so I figured it should run just fine on the 8500. If there was a Java conflict wouldn't I get an error message though?
