divx problems

I used to have the divx 5.0 codec installed, encoded some video clips and played them just fine.

I upgraded to divx 5.1 to play some movies that required it (downloaded clips). I tried to go back down to 5.0 by uninstalling and now I have 2 issues. These issues are not resolved even when going back up to 5.1.

1) Windows Media Player 6.4 or 9 no longer plays any divx AVIs. It says it's an unsupported format. Divx Player will play them fine, however. How do I get WMP6.4 to do it again?

2) VirtualDub doesn't show DIVX as a compression option any longer. Tried reinstalling 5.0/5.1/5.11 but none of them show up. How do I get VirtualDub to realize there's a divx encoder installed ? EDIT>>> Fixed: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24305

For the first problem, go to MyComputer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, and find avi and change the program that opens that file type.

Second Problem, have no idea, sorry

Sorry, I should've been more clear. It's not a file association problem. WMP said unsupported format (didn't recognize the avi) meaning it probably can't find the codec. This problem still exists after fixing the registry as in my 2nd problem. (Edited above)

Have you tried to completely uninstall all of your codecs and then re-install you codec packs this time and include 5.1. Sometimes the only fix is to get rid of all your codecs and re-install them.

How do you uninstall all of them and start over ? Only divx bundle was uninstallable via add/remove programs. I didn't install any codec paks.
