A7N8X-DX Problem

Hey I went over to my friends house today to fix his computer cuz Windows wasn't working right. I got windows to work and I installed all the drivers etc. I installed Nero and went to burn a cd and it failed then the CD drive would not open. I restarted the computer and it hung at the second screen. I restarted it and it did the same thing so I turned it off with the "hard off" and then tried again. Same thing. So I cleared the CMOS and still the same thing. My friend had to go to work so we had to leave but right b4 I did I tried again and this time from the speakers it said failed memory test...any ideas on how to fix it?
By the way it hangs b4 it starts booting to Windows so I can't get into safe mode or anything. TY

Send a message via ICQ to JohnE.
Is this two 256MB chips in dual channel mode or a single 512 chip? Have you tried reseating the RAM chip(s)? If two 256 chips, are they in the correct sockets (1+3)?

Make sure the current stick of memory is seated correctly. If that fails try beg/borrow a different stick of memory and try that. If the machine works with the new memory you've solved it. You can use DDR 2100, but make sure to get into the BIOS on boot up and change the FSB setting to accommodate the slower memory.

It has 1 512mb stick in. I didn't mess with the memory at all. Like I said he had to go to work. I told him to try reseating the ram and also try clearing the CMOS again. Headband It wasn't Logans computer. It was another friend of mine . When it was saying failed memory test it wasn't showing a picture so.....

By the way I don't have access to this computer right now. It is still at his house and he is closing at the place he works at tonight so I won't see him till tomorrow.

wow nice bios

but yeah all i can think of then is reseat the ram but since you didnt mess with it all i can think of is that you fried it or worse the bank

it might be an error with the drivers you installed what were they if this is the problem you should try and find a way to do a system restore by putting the hd in another system or something and removing the drivers also make sure you cant go to safemode by pressing f8 and if you can get to your cmos see if it recognizes the ram
