driver storage ?

Where would be the right dir to put drivers. NVIDIA_nforce-*.*.tar.gz before running tar. I read that /etc is for config files,/opt is for software packages, /lib system libraries /usrmajor storage. I understand I can put them any where, but if you looked in my PC for my drivers where would you look?

It doesn't matter where you put the .tar.gz file. Extract it to anywhere. Then execute the run file that gets extracted. That'll install the actual driver.

If you were looking for drivers on your computer you'd look in /lib/modules/whateverkernelversionyouhave/

It dosn't matter where you put the tar.gz OK

I put them in /tmp/drivers and ran tar -zxvf, ran make and make install, reboot

to add agp support I needed to compiel a kernel. Why not it hasn't worked yet, so I DL linux-2.4.23 and ran menuconfig. only making the 3 checks nvidia required. x86 cpu (AMD duron), /dev/agpgart, nvidia chipset support.
Low & behold this kernel workes. untell

insmod nvnet.o
this module not made for 2.4.23
reran make and make install, still no work. OK made a new dir for 2423 and cp drivers there and reran tar. looks good untell I reboot and module nvnet.o not found. I am missing something

now 2.4.23 loads up to finding nvaudio and stops there. It looks like it knows it is there but cant find the drivers for it. knows IRQ 11
Well back to slackware
