If they dont partition and format the hard drive for you, then you will need to do that....so you will need a floppy for that. you can just go to www.bootdisk.com and download a floppy image etc

If the drive is already formatted then you just boot from the cd

yes i am using win98 se

so to understand you correctly...

if not formatted and partitioned, then i DL a file from bootdisk.com (win98 se oem) run it make a program on a floppy, start the computer with the floppy in it then used the cd with win98 se when needed..

if the did format the disk then just used the cd rom by putting it in the tray? is there any command codes needed?

thanks a bunch

1. Either download a boot disk from the site and follow the instructions for creating a bootable floppy or

2. If you have the Win98 install diskette you can use that.

3. Boot from the floppy.

4. 98 floppy will give you instructions

5. Bootdisk follow the instruction from the site I linked to.

6. After the CD starts it thing just follow the directions.

Not quite. first you have to format the drive. wait for the a: prompt then type in "fdisk" (w/o quotations), enable large disk support, then follow the prompts. You want to create a primary dos partition. Once that is done then you can boot from CD.
