HELP ME PLEASE!
After deleting registry keys to get rid of spyware programs, my computer will not boot, it gets to the desktop wallpaper and will not restore desktop icons or the taskbar. Is there any way I can restore the registry somehow? I do not have an XP CD. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Jim

Welcome to Techimo! Let me guess, you lost it?
Have you tried doing a safe boot? Press F8 as win is starting to load.

Thanks, I'll go try it
I bought the PC pre-configured from Circuit City. I guess the disk wasn't included. Thank again.

Welcome to TechIMO!!
As I understand this you can't even get to start . Right?
I use W2K so I won't necessarily be able to solve your problem.
That being said, is your mouse working?
And if so, what happens when you right click the mouse?
Do you still have the menu pop-up givng you the choice to create a new shortcut?
If you can create new shortcuts someone here will be able to help out.
Bill
P.S. What about the safe boot? Did you try that?

Then I would contact Circuit City as a reinstall disk should have been part of the sale.

Yes the right click works
I can also use safe mode (f8) w/command prompt, however, I don't know the DOS commands to make anything run. Can I import registry keys from the recycle bin using regedit assuming they went there? Thanks, any help is much appreciated.

You should have an option for straight Safe Mode, forget about the command prompt.

OK, If you can create a new shortcut then we can probably get you to System Restore.
I don't know the exact path but it's located in [Accessories] [System Tools] [System Restore].
Anyone want to join in here?

IThanks Bill, it doesn't look like I can right click to create a shortcut. I can get to safe mode however. Any thoughts from here? Thanks again,
Jim

It should be something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.
Try creating a new shortcut and see if you can browse to it.
BTW, administrator might not be correct for you. All depends on how you log in by default when you start up.
