deleting registry keys
There's a funny moral to this story, just don't know what it is.

You may need to find that original disk. Somebody else may have some registry tricks, but I'm out. I think you'll at least need a start button, but I've been wrong before.

Always back up the registry before working on it.

More then likly IMO this will need a complete reinstall. I'd try running repair first. But no disk!

NOTE: The MS book for the registry is over 2,000 pages. That's alot of book work to find out what was deleted.

Maybe if you can get ahold of a XP CD you might be able to do a repair.

Kinda doubting it though.

You're sure you got no CD's in the box when you bought from CC?

Are the deleted registry keys in the

recycle bins? Since this was my last action, can't I restore them somehow through dos, safe mode or something?

Thanks,
Jim

What brand is your computer? On HP's they have a hidden partition of XP on it. Yours might have that so that's why you don't get a install cd

I could be wrong but I don't think deleted reg keys go to the recycle bin. At least I don't recall seeing any in mine.

How did you delete? Manually or through a program

If through a program it may have an option to undo.

Did have one other idea...Can you bring up your taskmanager with Ctrl+Alt+Del? If so, go to file>new task and type in "explorer.exe" (no quotes). Doesn't sound like windows explorer is starting...If that's all that's missing(longshot, but who knows?), you should be able to manually enter the registry key to load windows explorer at startup...

Hmm, the last I heard, it would be illegal for them to sell it w/ an OS on it w/o the actual CD and COA.

Does your CD-Key for XP start w/ FCKGW ???
