mandrake 9.2
hello,
i'm going to give mandrake another shot and try to put it on my wd 80gig hdd, but the only thing that makes me nervous is that it has win2k on it so therefore has an NT file system on it. does anyone know if 9.2 is actually good at resizing/deleting NTFS partitions? i heard that it was suppossed to be good at it (from mandrake of course). thanx a bunch!

Do you want to devote the whole drive to Mandrake 9.2?(I'd use 9.1,personally).
If so,then Mandrake's installer will delete the ntfs partitions if you want.DiskDrake is supposed to non-destructively resize ntfs partitions but I never tried it myself so I'd wait to hear from someone else before I tried it.

Yes, diskdrake will re-size NTFS partitions without data loss. Defrag and scandisk first.

backup backup backup -you will find that this precaution is a standard recommendation before ANY type of repartitioning
at least save your can't-live-without files to CD before you start
you have been warned

i have like 3 80gig hdd's one with winxp pro and the other two have win2k, i don't have ANYTHING on this hdd that needs saving, all the data on this drive is the os. now that i think about it, i do have an old 2.5gig hdd with win2k on it. i don't know if 9.2 will fit on that; if i can just sqeeze in there, i could use that 80gig hdd as a data drive or whatever. i tried installing 9.1 before (i think that i have the worst luck with linux installations, i have only gotten it to work once but i'm going to keep trying because i want to learn linux) but it had a hard time reading my mbr. oh well, i'm going to give it a shot.
thanx for the help, i will be posting back if this doesn't work!

lynch | Just curious but why do you say that? I was thinking about making the move over to Mandrake from Red Hat within the next few days.

| The Mandrake Control Center has a software management tool, using that is probably your best bet for now.
You can also browse the CD and install the RPMs individually by clicking on them, which will bring up a package management tool, or they can even be installed at the command line using the rpm command.

I'm keeping 9.1 as I tend to skip every other release anyway.I Especially like 9.1;it's a classic like 7.1 was.At least I think so.
