that info is so misleading...it is true that the file format is legal as well as sharing"mp3's" but its not legal to make a copy of copyrighted material in any format and then distribute it. File sharing of any copyrighted material of any file format type has always been illegal.

then what about the courts attributing it to the vcr?
you can copy a movie then give that copy to your neighbor.
is that illegal? i thought the illegal part kicked in only when you put it on "display" to the public. like playing a movie in a park for all to see then not charge admission. in my mind, letting someone download it for "personal" enjoyment is not illegal.

i dont know if im making any sense....

the big word there is "personal" making a copy for your neighbor is no longer personal that is distibution of copyrighted material thus making it illegal at least thats my understanding of the law

but your neighbor isnt the "all" i was referring to. they would also be using it for personal use. just b/c they let somone else have a copy isnt your fault. is it? thats why the statement about being a supernode. if your hooked up as a supernode, your "distributing", and, your not giving any royalties. if i read that passage correctly, thats why they're only going after those that function as nodes. (besides, what are they gonna do, sue the whole country/world? goodluck with that lawsuit).

it really makes no difference once you make the copy and hand it to another person its distibution even if its only one person. The facts are they really aren't going to target every single user that has ever traded/swapped/shared music online but it is still illegal. Basically all that site is doing is promoting the fact that they won't take steps to charge the average user but it hs happened. The site is very misleading in what it says.

simple and easy have slightly different meanings......for instance, imagine you were hanging 1000 ft in the air holding onto a rope....it would be SIMPLE to let go..but would it be EASY?? lol

dis·trib·ute ( P ) (d-strbyt)
v. dis·trib·ut·ed, dis·trib·ut·ing, dis·trib·utes
v. tr.
To divide and dispense in portions.

To supply (goods) to retailers.
To deliver or pass out: distributing handbills on the street.

To spread or diffuse over an area; scatter: distribute grass seed over the lawn.
To apportion so as to be evenly spread throughout a given area: 180 pounds of muscle that were well distributed over his 6-foot frame.
To separate into categories; classify.
Logic. To use (a term) so as to include all individuals or entities of a given class.
i dont see how this is the same as copying something and giving it to your neighbor... edit** whether or not that neighbor is on the other side of the country...
