DSL Question

This may be a little premature, my DSL doesn't get switched on till Monday, but here goes. I just received my 'equipment' from SBC/Yahoo! DSL. Along with the modem and several line filters was the little instruction booklet and installation CD. Let me first say that I am used to cable internet that uses no proprietary software whatsoever to connect or manage connections.

So my question is this: How little can I install from this evil little SBC/Yahoo! CD? Do I absolutely have to install their browser (I know I don't have to use it) and connection manager? Will it make anything any faster or work at all?

you shouldnt have to install there lame browser. if you do then i would suggest you do not use the DSL line.

all you really need to do is plug the modem into the network, make sure your network settings are good to go.

and no you wont get an preformance increase out of it

you shouldnt have to really change anything

some dsl account require you to enter a user name and password but you can add that to the router to do

I don't have it turned on yet. I went ahead and installed the filters. Is it normal to be unable to connect through dial up with the filters installed and the DSL not on yet?

I had cable months ago. I went with DSL because it's only costing me $8/month more than my 9.95 dialup! (NO that's not a typo)

After I switched phone service and signed up for the DSL I'm out a piddly amount.

my set up; phoneline with filter>DSL modem ( verizon eastcoast )>4 port D-link router> 3machines

I just open I.E. or Mozilla and I'm online

alsoI suggest Zone Alarm free or pro, just an suggestion

verizon has al kinds of home pages, and launch points, they want you to use, but I don't us them as long as you have the connection you'll be fine
