heh.. could someone please explain some basics about ram/fsb/cpu relationships to me?

so it's been years since I've built my own system and a lot has changed.

here's some of my questions.

1) I'm gonna probably go with either the NF7 or the NF7-S (suggestions... is the -S worth the extray $25)

2) If I run a processor that only runs at 266FSB (let's say an athlon 2000+ or something like that), can I use RAM that is rated higher than 266? if it can run higher than 266, can I run the ram at say 400 and still run the processor at 266... essentially, is the FSB separable.... now i'm not sure if this is even possible, but after reading all the technical specs for the motherboards, it seems as if this can be done even though I don't see how.

3)... is PC2100=266DDR? and similar equalities for all the other ones? if it is true, then why the two different names for it... more cofusion

I think that's about it... I know that their not difficult questions, but I have had a surprisingly difficult time answering them on my own.

Thanks in advance
-Z

I would and did get the S for the SERIAL ATA RAID.
You can run the mem seperate speed but I read all the time that people have trouble when doing it, nforce boards seem to like running mem same speed as CPU.

Yes DDR has two names, but can't remember why.

Edit: The S also has firewire

... that all, and ...

What RAM speeds are selectable for a given CPU speed is entirely up to the board's chipset, its clock synthesizer chip, and whatever the mainboard's hardware and BIOS engineers actually made available.
