Calling all A7N8X-D Motherboard owners. I seek your wisdom...

I have had this motherboard for a little while and I love it to death. I am hoping to purchase a Raptor in the near future but that is a different story for a later time. My question is about USB headers. I have a Lian-Li PC65 case that has 4 USB ports in the front of the case. I plugged the cords into a free USB header. I have tried and tried and tried but I can not get these to work. According to the manual I have the wires on the correct pins. Currently I am at work but I will try to get a pic or two with my digi cam so you can see. My question is do I need to make this header "live?" All of my USB ports on the back of the motherboard work fine. Ideas? Suggestion?

Well I know the header is live. If I use the stock connector that allows me to add on 2 additional USB ports it works fine. But if I plug in the front USB ports it does't work. Here are two pictures...

Any ideas would be greatly appricated.

EDIT - I failed to give a description of the two pictures that you see. That might make things a little clearer. The bottom picture you see is the Lian-Li wires coming from the front of the case plugged into the USB header. This configuration does not seem to work.

The top picture you see is a picture of the stock USB cable that came witht he motherboard. I have been using this cable up to this point so I know the USB header works.

Now I don't know this forsure but I would assume the color of the wires for USB is a standard? If this is not the case someone please correct me. I was matching up the wires for the front USB ports according to this blue USB cable.

I know there is a thread here. Those connectors arn't standard.
The thread had wiring diagrams or links to them.

It was the same problem you are having. Try a search, it was quite a while ago

I just got done connecting the usb ports today on my friends antec case. It has 2 usb ports in the front but the mobo I guess comes with an extra "thing" that goes in the back. What is your question now? U can hook up 2 usb ports only I believe. Just hook up 2 from the front and remember which ones u hooked up. Plz tell me if I did not answer your question how u wanted. I don't really get what you are trying to say.

I noticed from your pic that you have an Asus board. I had a couple of Asus boards that would only work with an Asus USB port.
There more than your standard port. they have a circutboard attached

Well I thought my first post was pretty clear but I guess not. I have 4 USB ports in the front of my Lian-Li case. I am trying to make 2 of the ports live. I plugged the USB1 and USB2 pins into the header according to the manual but they do not work.

According to my manual the pinout for this header is

USB +5V, USB _P6-, USB_P6+, GND, NC
USB +5V, USB _P5-, USB_P5+, GND

The lables for the pins as you can see in the pic is VCC, Data-, Data+, Gnd.

I think I can safely say I have the ground on the correct pin. That is all I know forsure.

Yes you are correct. THe A7N8X-D is an Asus motherboard. I also know what you are talking about. I had an old Asus motherboard like that. But the supplied USB connector set that came with the motherboard does not have a circut board.

If it will take any USB port the only thing left is the 2 data wires must be reversed.

Edit: The fix in that old thread was moving pins around.

You have to match the color coded wires that are terminated in the female pins from the USB ports to the male pins which are identified by your manual. If the female terminator is not wired to match the male header on the board, you must change the wires around in the female connector, by lifting the flap on the wire you want to change and releasing it with a pin. Fuller instructions can be found on Antec's internet site.
