dvd/cd burner config for max speed onA7N8X deluxe

Hi all, I've got an Asus A7N8x deluxe with a striped SATA RAID. Since I've got the primary and secondary IDE channels open I want to put my cd/dvd drives in the fastest most efficient config possible. I've got a new plextor 708a dvd burner and a BTC cd burner. I'm thinking it would be best to put both burners as master/slave on the primary channel, and a cd/dvd rom as master on the secondary channel. That way I could copy on the fly from the ROM to whichever burner was appropriate with max speed, I think...Am I on the right track here? .....Also, what do you all think of the Lite-on 166S DVD/cd ROM? does anyone have it?
thanks!

I would put the two primary burners as masters on either drive. So from what I read above you sound to be on the right track. Im assuming your hard drives are off on the SATA in RAID.

thanks for answering, Phenious....you're right about the HD's, they're on SATA. Say I put both burners as masters, and slave the reader to one of them, say to the CD burner..... won't that slow down data transfer between the CD burner and the reader when I copy a CD on the fly? I thought that if I put the burners as master/slave on the first IDE channel, that would maximize data transfer between the reader on the second IDE channel and whichever burner I would be using on the first.....is this theory incorrect?

Only one device can talk on a chain at any given time and master takes the lead. So its best to have a master on either cable for CD to CD copy. But if you are doing HDD to Disk its good to have the main channels for a DVD and a CD Burner. Most DVD burning will be from the HDD so you will probably want that on a HDD.

my God, I'm confused

OK, I'm a little slow here... you're right about the dvd's I have to move them to the hard drive to process them and then burn them to disk. Most cd stuff will be from my hard drive also. Once I've burned a dvd or cd, I sometimes later on want to make an exact copy "on the fly" for a friend. For this type of work what would I do?
1. Primary IDE channel: Master=?? ....Slave= ??
2. Secondary IDE channel: Master=?? ....Slave=??

drives available:
1. DVD/CD burner
2. CD burner
3. DVD/CD reader

All hard drives are on SATA.

OK

Primary :: 1. DVD\CD Burner
2. DVD/CD Reader

Secondary:: 1. CD Burner

That is what I would do
