Not that this helps you much, but I had the exact same problem running adaware on a friend's computer this past weekend...I never did get the darn thing to finish removing/quarantining the files. It found over 170 spyware files.
I ended up running Spybot instead...did the job, but not 100% like when combined with adaware.

It was an Compaq Presario 5000 with dual OS's installed (by mistake)...ME on C, XP on D...the computer had a ton of other problems though, so I wasn't suprised when adaware locked up over and over.

Run spybot first -- that might catch whatever's causing problems with AdAware.

And of course, make sure you have the latest version of AdAware and the latest definition files.

Good luck.

Kids

don't laugh,but I have no problem running/operating Ad-Aware on a sleek,super fast mean machine overclocked to a stunning 233Mhz,fsb@66Mhz on a packard bell.(multimedia 730)
soooo...?
It is hard for me to fathom this problem on you alls really super fast machine(s).
I realize this is of no assistance,I just thought to share this information to possibly narrow down the alternatives,to the solution.

Nothing like upping your post count, eh noprob?

I ran spybot first, no help...
Safe mode, no help...
Cussing, no help...
Kicking the machine when she wasn't looking...no help, but felt good!
