Voodoo 2 SLI mode, how to get it working on a P5A-B??
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of rebuilding my oldest rig, which contains the following:
Asus P5A-B, latest bios
AMD-K6-2 450Mhz @ 500Mhz
256Mb 133Mhz CL2
Riva TnT 16Mb agp
2 x Voodoo2 12Mb on SLI
I've tried to set the irq manually in the bios, and when I booted to windows, both cards were detected perfectly, and installed okay.
I went to properties, and it also stated that SLI was detected and enabled.
So I thought, great, let's try some gaming, but when I started Final fantasy, it hangs.
Now I know that these cards do not get an irq assigned automatically, do I hafya set it somwhere else too then only in the bios??
Thanks in advance.

Hmm... when i had my voodoo2's up n running i never had to assign IRQ's for them...
Have ya tried without forcing irq's?

damn its been i long time since i've seen a voodoo2 post!!! lol i used to love my voodoo2's!!! might have to break them out again some time! hehe

I have indeed tried without forcing the irq's, but it didn't get off the ground, so.....
I am using Win98SE with drivers from a page, dunno which exactly, but they work fine.
Could it be that I have the assign the irq in resources in the properties of the cards??
Used to love em?? I still love em, I will never part from them, why ya think I still have this old rig?? Just to be able to run my Voodoo's in.
For some reason it won't run on my newer rigs. |

lol actually yeh i still love em... Hence why i havent parted with them either! hehe
Seriously, for their age they used to do alright before i packed em away (could run max payne fine! textures were limited by the 256x256 limit, but performance wise it was fine).
I wouldn't mind getting a rig up n running with them again to play old school 3dfx only games on... hmm...
Have ya tried ither games besides final fantasy?

Yeah,
I also tried UT and Diablo2, but both no go.
This is really an irq problem I think, I'm at work at the moment, but as soon as I get home, I'll try several things I found that might be the problem.
Will keep ya informed.
Thanks for the help

Do you have ACPI enabled and Plug and Play aware OS disabled in the BIOS? That may help with IRQ assignment by the BIOS instead of Windows.

You're wasting your time. The V2 does not and never has, required an IRQ. It's very likely a driver problem. Visit voodoofiles.com and try some of the more updated (ie. hacked) versions of the V2 reference driver, especially those tailored for AMD based systems.

I think the cards are fighting trying to decide who will do the 3D acceleration. I remember there is a software that allows you to manually decide that such software will run on the Voodoos, that other one will only run through the main card...
Search voodoofiles.com maybe.
