My Fellow Members:
I presently have a
IWill XP-333-Raid motherboard, a
XP1900 and
1GB of PC 2700 DDR SDRAM . This particular motherboard and CPU combination has worked very well for me during the past year. While inside the box yesterday, I noticed two things that have me concerned.
First: The small fan that is mounted on the motherboard and designed to cool the chipset was spinning "irradically." By this I mean that sometimes it appeared that the fan was having difficulty making a complete revolution! Then it would speed up only to slow down again. I never noticed the fan to be operating in this manner before, though I never made a habit out of studying it. The
chipset is made by Ali , and
contrary to much commentary it has proven to be an outstanding chipset. In any event, I studied the monitoring software for this motherboard, noting the various voltages and fan speeds. Unfortunately, there is no meter on the chipset fan, only on the CPU fan. I suspected the power supply but the fan speeds and the voltages remained constant. I suppose it could simply be the fan giving out.
Any ideas on this? Second: The motherboard battery has a kind of "rusty film" around the rim, as though it is corroding. I recall this happened to another system (battery) of mine, though no harm came from this. I happen to live a couple hundred yards from Cape Cod Bay and I often have my windows (the glass kind!) opened in order that I might enjoy the summer breeze. Is this anything to be overly concerned about? Presumably I should simply change the battery . . .?
From this " Tech-o-holic" to the rest of you, subconsciously I may be searching for a reason to procure a new motherboard, CPU and memory combination. I mean, "who am I trying to kid ?"
Though truth be told this is a very good system, and (seriously) what should I do about the fan over the chipset?
I appreciate all your suggestions!
Thanks!
