Geforce 4 Problem again

Hi everyone,

I had earlier posted a thread with a problem that my computer was unable to detect my new geforce 4. Well, I solved that problem but now I have another problem.

My monitor keeps refreshing every 15-20 seconds while I'm surfing the net or even using a word processor. When the image reappears after a refresh, sometimes it is garbled. The computer does not freeze, but this is very annoying. I can't seem to work on anything without having the monitor keep flashin on me.

My specs are:
Pentium 4 1.7 Gz
PCChips M935 LR motherboard with agp 4x
Geforce 4 440 MX with agp 8x (running at 4x)
Win xp

Thanks in advance!

First, how is the AGP adapter seen by Windoze?
Is it recognized correctly and is the refresh rate set correctly?
Sounds more like a driver issue to me. What drivers do you have installed, how much memory does your AGP card have, and how much memory do you have allocated to the AGP window in the BIOS?
Could also be incorrect BIOS settings

Thanks for the reply wallie

well i have an sis agp adapter and have the latest drivers for it. the fact that the card works for games shows that windows recognizes the adapter and card properly. my refresh rate is 85 hz at 1024*768 which is the optimum for my monitor.

initially i installed the latest nvidia drivers, v. 53 i think. then i read online that installing older drivers might solve the problem. i installed v29 but no difference. i'm back to the latest drivers again now.

the video card is 64mb geforce 4. i'm not too sure about the bios settings. i have onboard video which is disabled since there is an agp card in the agp slot. in the bios all i did was make the primary display adapter to agp instead of pci which is the default.

the weird thing is that i have no problem playing games or watching movies, its just some other usual applications that cause the problem.

looking forward to a reply. thanks
