how to syncronize folders on differnt computers within a workgroup

Hey everyone,

I have several computers that I work from. I constantly move from one to the other and need to have that information available to me at the new one. I know of m$ briefcase, but I seems to be having trouble getting that to work.

Can anyone tell me of a good app that they know that can help me do this efficiently?

thanks,
-Z

If the computers are in the same LAN I would just map a drive to just one computer and always use it as a "home directory" for the data. If you really needed the files replicated to each machine then you could write a VBS script or batch file that maps the drive and then copies the data.

dvnt1,

actually, they are not on the same lan. I was sort of figuring that I was going to have to write my own program to do this. I'm competant in java, but I didn't want to waste time doing it if there was already something out there that works real well.

any other suggestions are still welcome

Do you think removable media is the best way to transfer the files between computers?

I've certainly considered it, but what i was hoping for was sort of a program that could do a "comparison" between a remote folder and a local folder. Lots of times I'm working on a project where several files are changed, and I'm not always organized enough to keep track of everything that has changed...

I've seen something along the lines of what i'm looking for built into rhinosoft FTP voyager where you can sync local and remote folders, but that is for ftp. that works fine for getting to my home computers (running ftps), but isn't an option for the lan computers.

you can use a batch file that will make a vpn connection and synch the files up.....dont ask me how though...Meese can tell you, he's the best at it....it's in a thread here somewhere showing how to do it...maybe search for "vpn batch"

edit.......try here and see if the batch files would do it

Here's a possible solution I found via Google (once you determine the file transfer method). http://www.geocities.com/Qwertie256/...lp/readme.html
