Acceptable Pc Temp?
Whats an acceptable pc temp?
Im using Motherboard Monitor 5 and im getting 2, on is around 40 degrees celcius and the other is about 35-36 degrees celsius.
The 40 one goes up to like 60 when im playing homeworld 2.
I have a fan on the power source, a fan and heatsink on the cpu, a fan and heatsink on my 9800pro.
They are all sucking, i dont have any blowing ones. My computer case doesnt have space for a fan on the front. Where should i put one? And what about cathode rays? Those are only good for blowing fans right?

What are your system specs.. I see the 9800pro but what are the processors? 60C is still ok but it is running pretty hot. Mine was running about 60c and I got a Zalman HSF and some AS3 and temp went down to 45C. What about the fans now?? How many case fans do you have and what direction are they blowing....front fan (if you had one) blowing in...rest blowing out. Could u post a link to your case so that I can see what u mean. TY and GL

60C is pretty borderline, at that point the majority of people would do something about it (I would). What does the case temperature measure relative to the CPU temperature?
However, if you arent seeing any stability issues, I'd say you're not harming anything
Do you have room for a fan on the case in the back? I suppose you could always cut a hole in the top of the case and install a "blow hole." Fan to exhaust the hot air out the top. Theres alot of modding websites that show how to do something like that.
Same could be done on the side of the case, or I suppose even on the back if there was room for it

thanx for the replies, how would i know to check for stability, other than the game crashes to desktop.
To MitaDC:
I have one on the back of the case sucking out. Thats it. My dad actually purchased the system and the Sh*theads over there convinced him that that one fan on the back is an extra.
Now my dad is totally against getting another one so i hafta go "undercover" and pick up and install another one myself.
The system in question is my secondary computer, it has a p4 2.66 ghz with 512mb of DDR.
Should i have one blowing in, the other out on the back of the fan? or is that like cancelling each other out because i really dislike the idea of modifying the case and i would rather not.

Yes u should atleast have one blowing in...u will have to get a dremel or something to cut a whole in the front. Is it actually slotted in the front?? if so then maybe you could just drill 4 holes for the new fan

Also like I said...I got a new HSF and some Arctic Silver 3 (now u can get AS5) and it dropped my temp 15C. U might want to try it out if u don't want to put in a new fan. IMO that would probably be another good thing to add while u r fixing the heat problem

the front of my case will not handle a fan, its the way its made. I dont know, i guess more looks than usefulness. Argh, my dad is so one-sided with these technical things. If they dont say u need it, then u dont. I dont even think those people over at where we got it know about computers, i think they just put them together.
Why do i have 2 places for fans in the back? Are they both for sucking? And this artic silver, what is it? Also i have no idea how to use heatsinks.

As for case air flow... You want at least 1 intake, in the bottom front. And 1 exhaust in the back top (normally below the power supply).
You could prolly pick up a new case for like 30-40 dollars and just transfer the componets and power supply to the new case if you wanted a little more extreme measure.
Before I did that though Id go with Mita and replace the heatsink and apply a good thermal compound like Arctic Silver

Go to arcticsilver.com to learn more about arctic silver and u can find it on like newegg.com for like 5 bucks, zalmanusa.com for an virtually silent HSF that works good. I will try to find u a tutorial about how to put on heatsinks.

argh, this sucks. See i feel really held down cuz i cant REALLY do anything, because of my dad, but he doesnt understand that HEAT DAMAGES HARDWARE. He doesnt use the computer so he doesnt care. Also, how can i tell if a computer case has a spot for a fan in the front?
