GeForce4 Ti4600 VS GeForceFX 5200
I realized that the GeForce FX 5200 is only $100 (I'm targeting the Asus Video Cards) since I'm planning to port to the *safer* Pentium 4 (even though I might get scolded by some AMD Guys). I realized that the newest Motherboards recommend AGP 8X and I was only suspicious about the following:
GeForce4 Ti4600 (AGP 4X)
Vertices Per Second: 136 Million
Fill Rate: 4.8 Billion AA Samples/Sec.
Operations Per Second: 1.23 Trillion
Memory Bandwidth: 10.4GB/Sec.
Maximum Memory: 128MB DDR
GeForce FX 5200 (AGP 8X)
Graphics Core: 256-bit
Memory Bandwidth: 10.4GB/sec.
Fill Rate: 1.3 billion texels/sec.
Vertices Per Second: 81 million/sec.
Maximum Memory: 128MB DDR
I have pretty much narrowed down my options with the help of some TigerDirect.com employees so I pretty much have this case closed.

If you want a new card go with the FX 5700. The FX 5200 is nothing more than an updated GF4 MX440. As you can see by the specs you posted, the GF4 Ti4600 is a faster card than the FX 5200. You shouldn't worry about the AGP 8X spec. You will not see much, if any, performance increase from 4X to 8X. |

Don't you think it makes more sense for me to go to an AGP8X Card instead if I am gonna deploy an AGP8X-powered Pentium 4 Motherboard?

Not really. There isn't much difference performance wise from 4X to 8X. There are GF4 Ti4600/4800's available with AGP 8X support.
But if you have the money, the FX 5700 would be your best bet with 8X support and more importantly, DX9 support. |

I used a FX5200 128 X8 card....it was ok, benchmarking was REALLY LOW. As far as the games i played, in open GL it worked well with NASCAR 4, but in direct 3D it studdered alot....don't get the 5200 ....i went to a radeon 9600 pro 128 x8 and it was twice the performance of the 5200 plus some....

ur comparing the geforce4 4600ti, the best of the geforce4s... to a 5200, a performer equal to the geforce4 mx440 (dx8)... no comparison. sure the 5200 is a dx9 card, but it is slooooow. the 4600ti is by far the much better card... much MUCH MUCH better.
btw, how much are u getting the geforce4 4600?
y dont u go to tomshardware.com, do a search on geforce4 4600 and see how much better it is than the mx440, then u will have an idea of how much better the 4600 is to the 5200. lol.

After discussing this with several salesmen at TigerDirect.com Retail Store at Fox Valley, he told me that the only way I can actually experience differences on Video is to actually get a super-expensive GeForce FX 5900 OR an ATI Radeon 9800XT Video Card..otherwise, he recommended me to stick with my GeForce4 Ti4600 AGP 4X for now because he informed me that it *will* work on a Pentium 4 Motherboard with AGP8X Support because he told me that there will be no system lockups even though I use an AGP 4X Video Card instead. So I'm gonna pretty much stick with with my AGP 4X Video Card for now and in addition, this is what I'm gonna pretty muck keep:
* Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Card
* Lite-On 48x12x48x CD-RW
* JTMS 16x DVD-ROM
* Two Floppy Drives
* 250MB External ZIP Drive
* Western Digital 7200RPM 74.4GB UATA100 EIDE Hard Drive
I guess the only things I need to change is my motherboard, processor, memory, and the Power Supply.

The ultra versions are alot better versions than the non. I would avoid the non ultra if I was you. Also AGP is backward compatible so a 4x will work in a 8x slot. I agree the ti 4600 even being older and DX8 is still a better choice than the non ultra version of the 5200. And Probably the Ultra one too.
Believe me I had a MX 420 and it sucked so I udgraded to a ti 4200 WOW what a difference in performance.
Wait a while for the prices on some of the newer cards to drop. And get one of those. IMO I would stick with the Ti for now. Still a great card even for its age.
