Host, Lmhosts.sam, Hosts.BHO Files ????

For the past 3 months,I have been going through "spyware/adware Hell"! I bought a program called spyhunter, and always seemed to find parasites, and remove them. However, each time i would reboot, most of them were back again.

I finally tried a program called ADAWARE, and it seemed to do better, but some of the parasites were still coming back. So after i did a scan, i would run window washer and that seemed to have got rid of everything.

My question is, what are these Host, Lmhosts.sam, Hosts.BHO Files?
Do i really need them? I have modified the host & hosts.BHO files with the 127.0.0.1 at the beginning of them, but the lmhosts file hasn't been modified. Should i do the same thing with it?

Here is a copy of the lmhosts.sam file, what should i do with it?

Also I would like to know if there is a way to remove the entries in my startup folder from when these programs were starting after a reboot.
