Direct X 9--- Is it really worth it?
Topic says it all. Is Direct X 9 really worth having on your system today?
It's been out now for a while now and I was wondering how it fares against DX.8.1.
The crazy thing is, once installed, it can't be uninstalled w/o special software.
So, Is it really worth it?

If you want to run the latest games, yes.
If you aren't having any trouble with it as it is, leave it alone, unless you're a compulsive upgrader, and if that's the case- give in to the urge!

I think DX9 is only applicable in high end ATI and the Nvidia FX series of video cards. It doesn't apply to Nvidia's Ti series.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

Direct X 9--- Is it really worth it? no, unless you must (for specific games).

Well it definitely won't hurt anything. But then, if you don't have any games/software that needs DX9, I wouldn't worry about it. If you do get it though, make sure you get 9.0b. (don't know where you'd get a different version, but if you get it elsewhere than windows update, make sure)

Many games require DX9 to be installed, even if your video card is only a DX8 or even a DX7 card.

I've only got a GeForce 2 card, I've got DX 9.0b, and I recently ran a game that only requires DX 7 without any problems at all.
