Systems help please is it the fan?

hi,
i got a pny verto 9600 ultra today and after installing i think my fan is not working. It works till the windows home edition logo comes and then it stops. Do you think there is a problem with the fan or is it a heat sink that is there instead of the fan. Please help

thanks,
miracles

Easiest way to tell if your fan is working is to open your case and then boot your system to visually verify whether or not it is working.
More than likely, your video drivers are not installed correctly. I am not sure about the PNY Verto 9600 Ultra, but I know many video cards require you to install the drivers FIRST, then shutdown and install the card.
Would help the troubleshooting process if you gave your operating system and system specs.
Oh, and Welcome to Techimo!

hi

hi,
thanks for replying. i have an asus motherboard p4 and i am running windows xp home edition. i bought Pny ge-forcefx 5600 ultra. I also noticed that after i reinstalled windows that the fan was working when i installed windows but as soon as i installed the nvidia driver the fan stopped working. i had also installed the vga driver for my motherboard and the fan was working but after installing the nvidia driver it stopped working so i was wondering if the fan is a heat sink or temp regulated.
I have another question it is about the bios of my fx card. I had exchanged my card because i had trouble with it and got the same model again but now i see that the cards bios is older than the previous version. is there a way to update the cards bios. i went to the pny website but i could not find anything about the cards bios on there website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanking you,
miracle

I actually remember hearing something about this! (although i thought it was for the 5200s could be wrong tho).

Someone (prolly THG) did a review of the newest nvidia drivers (52.14) and they noticed that the fan wouldn't work on certain versions of the 5600 (or 5200) and so they had to revert back to the det 45s. i would recommend getting those and installing them to see if the problem is still present

hi

hi,
i tried to downgrade the driver but it is not installing it. i even uninstalled all the prvious version but still its not working. originell when you mean different versions of 5600 ultra do u mean there are different versions of those too .

I also noticed another problem before in the nvidia display properties i had the temp setting where i could see the temp of my graphic card but this same model is not showing that temp setting .
i dont understand how to fix this thingy anymore.
please help if anyone knows about it
thanks,
miracle

yeah...aside from the ultra and non-ultra versions, different companies make 5600 cards. they all follow a reference design, but there are still differences from card to card. you might also try installing new drivers from pny (if you used the nvidia drivers before).

the presence (or absenc) of the temp settings is prolly just a change in drivers.

try uninstalling the old drivers, rebooting, and then booting again, reboot, and then reinstall the new drivers
