create a forum?

k, I have a project that needs to create a forum, doesn't matter what software to use, the only thing my professor wants to see is the result, any suggestions? Thanks in advance

All you need is a webserver running Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Actually you can probaly have any webserver.

You should use phpBB. phpBB is the best forum available, IMO and best of all...it's free. If you can wait 'til sometime right before Xmas there will be a public release of Minverva which is a great modified phpBB board with tons of extra features. The url is www.flexion.org. To install phpBB you can use MySQL 3x, MySQL 4x, PostGre, MS Access, MS SQL (Maybe?) but, for Minerva you can only use MySQL 3x or 4x for the time being. Other than that all you need is at least PHP 4 and a working webserver.

phpBB, is the best BB IMO.

if you dont have a mysql database i would recommend this forum uses plain text files as databases.

but if you do have mysql i would recommend phpbb easy to setup and lots of mods for it

Nice tut David, whatever forum you go with from PHPBB to Invision the hardest part is probaly setting up the MySQL database.

yea, so i am gonna work on it but is it possible to use it with MS access? i don't have mysql nor ms sql, maybe i need to buy one? or can i just use MS access to get over it?

www.mysql.com and www.php.net and www.apache.org it's all free. Also, PHPBB and Invision Power Board are also free.
