Why is the ultra so much more?

Why is the FX 5900 ultra so much more than the FX 5900? In benchmarks the Ultra only pulls ahead by like 1 or 2 fps.

Well, that's a useless answer.

The tip-top-end of the video card industry is usually quite expensive. In addition, relatively few Ultra's were made / bought (even fewer than usual for a high-end part) and that's probably helped keep prices high. They shoudl drop with the advent of the 5950 however.

Thanks for a REAL answer. Ok, so it was just you buying the ULTRA name. I guess I'll look more at 5900s than ultras as they both perform the same.

They are priced like that because they know there are uneducated ppl who will pay that much for them. As long as there are customers that will bend over for them, they will continue to shaft those customers.
In less than a year, you will be able to find those same cards for >$75.
Never buy bleeding edge cards. You are just paying prime bucks to be a beta tester for a card that will be worth squat in 6 months time.

like my friend buying the XT because he wanted something better than my all in wonder 9800 pro, Dont be fooled by the name, look at the benchmarks and decide yourself.

Actually, i heard that the XT was noticably faster than the pros, it was even rated number one video card on techtv.
