cool-off my 9600
OK, here's the deal. I've got a new ATI 9600 np. I overclocked it and it worked fine, but I return to default 'til I get some additional cooling. Lookin' for some of your expert input!
I like the standard heatsink ATI put on the gpu, larger than most I've seen, but one of my choices would be to remove it and install a fan/heatsink combo like on ATI's 9600 pro. Been looking at the Vantek copper Iceburg.
Another choice I was thinking about, leave the existing stock heatsink and add a fan to it, like the fan on a cpu heatsink.
Orrrr Vantek has a dual fan setup that fits into the card slot next to the videocard and both fans try to blow the vcard out of the box!
any of these choices good? have a better way to go?

Im also interested as I got one of those awsome cards myself. Whats yer OC on it? Mine is 420/523. I'm pretty sure that with a real HSF I can get the core up to 500mhz.

I’m not as courageous as you (Juan) … I stopped at 400/500. I still have a slow system but the 9600 did improve on 3Dmark’01se by 15% after oc’ing it. I put it back to default like I said, but I did order the “iceberg” ... the copper one. But I’m still wondering if I should leave the stock heatsink on and add a fan to it.

Check out my article here
I used a thermal take giant II heatpipe cooler with a fan. It's a great product, cools very well and came out cheaper than the Zalman product.

Both the Zalman 80C HP and the Thermaltake Giant II look to be excellent coolers. The Thermaltake does come out cheaper because of it's included fan. |

thx for the info... obviously you don't want to have a pci card in the slot next to it...... it wouldn't fit! that's OK, I got lots of empty pci lots, but the agp slot is very close the psu.. hummm one of those huge coolers might work.

You might want to try some more cooling if you want to go higher than 460 on the core, maybe some BGA ramsinks would help ya out for hte memory, but for me, I have my core at 485 MHz and mem at 720.
