Internet Explorer connection lost... is msbb.exe responsible??

When I've tried to run Internet Explorer, it won't work for me and tells me that the page cannot be found.

But when I run Opera (as I'm doing now), I can view the Internet.

My connection is on a broadband one, and the msbb.exe virus has hit my computer. Could this have caused IE to fail??

Note: I am running Internet Explorer 6.

Is there any way to get IE6 to run again???

msbb.exe appears to be spyware...

Microsoft has something to say about it, but it appears to be in xp...
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317714

Here's some info on it;

http://www.winpatrol.com/db/freesample/msbb.html

http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.ncase.html

Go here (download.com) and download a program called,"ad aware," to get rid of it...as well as any other spyware/adware/malware you may have;
http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.ht...are&tg=dl-2001

after that, try un-installing ie6, (assuming it was updated from an earlier version) and then go back to windows update and download it again...

hope this helps! Vicki

Thanx for the advice, Vicki. I have tried re-installation of Internet Explorer, but it still doesn't work.

Does anyone else know how to get it working??? If so, just PM or email me!

Media msbb.exe and n-case

Thanks, all, for your kind and expert help with this issue. I experienced lots of unsatisfactory perfomance issues (no jokes please) with IE on a broadband. Using Task Mgr I spotted "msbb.exe" and google led me to this discussion forum. I removed both the msbb and n-case files and now the connection is back humming. Of course I now wonder how many other spywares are clicking away in the background? I downloaded a detection application http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
and now that I see all the potential culprits my head is spinning...any other related knowlege about hijackers and spys would be greatly appreciated and admired by this person who basically lives on the Internet.

Make sure that you get and run ADAWARE as suggested above.

ZoneAlarm is great (also free) for letting you know when a new program is trying to access the Internet. If ZoneAlarm asks you if program xxxxx can access the Internet, and you don't know what it is, warning bells should go off in your head.

If you are running Windows 98, try doing "Start", "Run", type in "msconfig" and hit enter. Look at the "startup" tab and it gives you a list of programs that start up every time your computer does. You can look them up easily on the web to find out what each does. Even if they are not spyware, some of them can be turned off safely to return resources for better use.

good luck, and persist in setting things up so that YOU get to use the computing power you paid for.

Conway, please make sure that you do not have new.net installed (accidentally with other software; very few install it on purpose)

See Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302463

I had to remove it from a friend's computer in order to allow it to access the Internet.

The symptoms weren't quite the same, but it's reasonably quick to check for.
