Portable CD players inproper use of battery life...

How come all portable cd players(Well, all that i have seen) spin the disc for a long time, AFTER it sais the batteries are dead? I was on the bus the other day, and my song stopped playing, i looked down and the cd player had turned off. I turned it back on, but noticed that the batteries were almost dead. 20 seconds later it shut off again, but the disc inside was still spinning, and it was spinning faster than normal. Even when i opened the lid the cd still spun, it spun at a very fast rate for 10 straight minutes. How the hell can the batteries be dead, when the cd spins really fast for 10 minutes? I think cd manufacteres need to let that extra power be used to play a sogn for another 10 minutes.

Does anyone know why cd players do this?

the motor itaself is actually a low power device once it is up to spped.. it uses more power to get it up to speed than it does to keep it @ speed.. but the electronics controlling the CD and the laser itself are both very susceptible to low voltage issues (ie dead batteries)

so it may be just the case of the voltage low enough to cause the electronics/laser to work improperly and some how the motor did not get turned off by the electronices that do not have enough voltage to work properly... now mind you I could be completely of base but it's at least a fairly plausible reason....
