WinXP Home Wipe Out
I haven't wiped out an XP machine that didn't have the corprate edition installed. I'm about to prep a machine for resale.
I have to copy files from the buyers old hard drive to the XP machine. I was just going to install his old drive on the XP machine and copy files over once I have the XP machine wiped out and re-installed.
What am I looking at as far as activation of a re-installed WinXP Home and adding the old drive for copying purposes?
Cheers!

For me it just involves an automated phone call. Every once in a bit I get a real person. You just give them some number, they ask if it's ever been installed before, and then they give you the activation code.

takes a long time though.... "please tell me your instal code now.....please repeat...please speak louder....would you like me to repeat that??...." the automated voice is very annoying and speaks very slow and also says the above things (not exact word for word :0))

Thanks for the replies so far.
What would the phone # be that I will have to inevitably call?
Cheers!

If you have an active connection to the net you may be able to reactivate online with little or not problem.

One more question.
The original owner doesn't want WinXP Home. I get it as an early X-mas present. Since this machine came pre-installed with XP Home, and was activated of course, how would I change the registration with Microsoft to make it mine?
Cheers!
