blank screen??

Hello people,

A friend at work has a HP pavillion computer and he says that his monitor screen is blank, but the computer is powered up. He says when he takes that monitor and uses it with another pc it works fine. I took a look at it last week and thought I solved the problem. I went to the hp website to troubleshoot and it told me to go into safe mode which I did and then in device manager under display adapters to delete the device. (upon restart windows would detect and install the drivers) I noticed that there were 3 of the same devices under display adapter and I deleted them all and restarted the computer and all was well and no more blank screen, but now he said after about a week or two he is having the same problems......do any of you know what is causing this? I have yet to take a 2nd look at his computer.
He is running windows ME with 32 mb ram.....is this enough?
Could he have a virus?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

I can't remember the last time I had a computer with 32-MB of RAM. That can't be helping but I'm not sure that's the cause of the problem. Sounds like there might be a problem with the driver or the video card. Did you download an updated driver? What kind of card is it?

I can't remember the last time someone sold a computer with 32MB of RAM.

Assuming you can still get into Safe Mode try changing, in display properties, your display adapter to SVGA and re-boot.

Then re-install the drivers for the card.

Hopefully as Osprey4 said you will be able to download newer drivers first.

If this is an older system your vid card may be heading for the last roundup.
