Internet Explorer saving images as Bitmaps

when I right click an image and go to Save Picture As....., it always saves jpg's as bitmaps. I want it to save the file as a jpg.

btw, I have searched.....and I am saving images for personal use (just nice cars and stuff).

Thanks.

after you click "save picture as" a window opens titled "save picture" and in the top scroll bar you can choose where you want to save the picture too, at the bottom of the window there is 2 scroll bars "file name" and the very bottom one is "save as type", in the "save as type" you select Jpeg,
and if that option is not available it is because the pic you are trying to save is not a jpg, and does not have the qualites (enough colors) of a jpeg, bitmap and gif dont have all the colors jpg does.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a bitmap is very capable of 24-bit color, and so is jpeg...

I'm not sure as to why IE won't let me save it as a .jpg as well... Save as .gif? Sure! Save as .bmp? Sure! Save as .jpg? No frejoles...

Anyway, my best guess would be that it was a licensing issue... but even that guess may be wrong. Although, this is a good question, and I will be awaiting, as you are, for the answer.

David

EDIT: You could always save it as a .bmp, then convert it to jpeg...

bmp would be better quality, although bigger file size. The jpeg format pixelates and distorts quite a bit compared to most other image file formats.

Try clearing your history and temporary IE files.

That should fix the problem unless I mis-read this.

(Early here)

I remember having this problem. It happened when the picture didn't download entirely in Explorer.

I just clicked RELOAD then the image was there completely and I could save it as JPG.

yeah, I can ONLY save it as a bitmap. I don't even have a choice to change it to gif or jpg.

When I cleared my Temp internet files and cookies it only gave me the coice of .bmp. But when I refreshed the page it gave me back the original second option of .gif. Strange...?
