So I was playing Americas Army today and while I'm playing I hear a weird sound as if my computer is shutting...like right when the fans and stuff turn off.....well I think....Well that is weird oh well, nothing is happening, so then about 10 sec. later my comp freezes. Sh*t I think. So I restart my computer cuz there is nothing else I could do and guess what happens at start up?? Anybody?? Windows could not boot blah blah blah because this file is missing or corrupt

Wow not a good thing. So I get my XP cd and try to run repair. But I couldn't figure out how to run it so I take the hard drive out of the computer and take it to another computer in my house (computer 2). Hook the HD from computer 1 up to computer 2 as a slave drive and then wow says like "IDE 80 conductor cable not detected" then goes to the next screen and says GRUB under boot from cd. I don't know what this means so I restart the computer without the Slave drive and it says like GRUB Hard drive error. So I have no source to you guys :0( because both of the comps I have up and running (hahahaha) RN'T WORKING! lol. So then I take the hd from computer 1 and put it back in and run system repair again and DIR at the commmand prompt to see if my files were still there...couldn't find any files on my drive....how sad :0(. So then I go to re-install windows hoping that just maybe the screen would pop up that says..... Fresh Install or Update. Well it didn't so I reformatted my hd. Thing is my mom has her buisiness and my dads buisiness on that HD!! To say the least my mom isn't too happy right now. She lost all of her checking accounts, my dad's buisiness acounts (the program she uses has the amount of money everybody owes him etc.) I lost all of my downloaded music (hehehehe) which was up to about....well I won't say lol. What a horrible day. Sometimes I just hate computers lol.

P.S. How could this virus hit me?? Assuming it was a virus...I had just updated my virus definitions with Norton Antivirus....was running Norton Firewall and also Windows Firewall...how did it get through all those?
Next time you might want to get a cheep 5-10 gig drive and set a schedualed backup of your important files. I have a 160gig primary, but my little 6 gig Seagate has saved my files more than once!!
I have a cheap HD I could use for it but it only shows up in the bios...so I put linux on it. My mom pretty much said I couldn't play or do anything on this computer anymore. She thinks it is from my downloads but I wasn't downloading anything. Oh well building mine starting next week so I don't mind lol. About the corrupt PSU how could I tell if it was....like I said it made a weird sound b4 it froze and it sounded like it lost power to everything for a quik sec.

Good luck on the new system ! Sounds like you need to build Mom one too, so you can rebuild her confidence a bit.
