is someone trying to hack me?
i installed a trial version of zone alarm and like many of you know, it has a little dialog box that pops up when a program trys to access the internet and asks if you will permit it. well, a box popped up that said that a certain ip address was trying to gain access to my system and that it blocked it. so, i guess that means someone is trying to hack me? if so, why would they try to hack me? i mean, if i was a hacker i would go after a company or something. oh yeah, the box also said that it was telnet, does that mean that they used telnet and typed in my ip address? this is weird because i just moved from a city that i have lived at for a while.
any help is appreciated.

most probably Weird too.
There was this one website too. If u right click on the background site, a message shows up saying "do u want to steal my stuff"? Then there is Yes and No tab. They're all the same actually and message box will eventually ask and ask you again with numurous questions with Yes tab. Until the last part it ask me, "I'll give you some of my Pokeymon"...dozens of pokeymon website rain on you till your taskbar floods. Then i had to alt-f4 to shut'em all down.

Sounds like someone running a port scanner, looking for open ports on a computer so that they can gain access to it. Once they find an open port, they can put in a trojan program that will take over the system and use it for their purposes (stealing info, DDOS attacks on other computers, spamming, etc).
Are you on a cable modem or DSL? If so, I would recommend getting a router that will act as a hardware firewall, just one more layer of protection |

i get this all the time... click "more info" when those popups showup. there will be like four tabs that will tell you what happened who did it and why.... (your prolly running the trial ver of ZAPro, just to let you know)...but 7/10 its port scans for a range of IP addys...not JUST targeted at you...

Open zone alarm, select alerts and logs, and click the lines that are questionable, there is a small window at the bottom that gives you a little info ,if you have broadband, you may be over reacting, I know I sure did when I saw all the times per hr my ISP was pinging and sending packets.
If the alerts are red, and you don't recognize the app or IP then you should be worried!

yeah shifter2101, it is a trial version i wanted to see how good it was before i bought it. i looked at the descriptions of the "attacks" and i have numerous ones and ZA says that they were pings so i guess someone was scanning my port. i have a cable connection and i do want to get a router but i'm about to go to basic training for the airforce in just over 3 weeks so i won't be able to use it for long. i don't recognize the ip address and the thing that gets me worried (maybe curious is the better word) is that ZA just names the "attacker" as an ip address, every other thing that ZA address to me says the name of the program or something of that nature. i guess the good thing is that ZA is blocking all the these port scans.
cheers,

I seem to get "hacked" also
I use pc-cillin 2002, and EVERY MINUTE(exactly) it shows that I have been hit by a "Ping Attack". Is this dangerous? or am I over-paranoid?
Currenlt, I have the firewall disabled to allow me to host a Ventrilo server for my friends.

its not as bad as you guys think though... sure there are ppl out there to find your credit card numbers, ssn, etc... but really when u get those alerts it more than likely is a server from a site/program u have on ur computer that is tryin to access info (spyware anyone?) ZA is a good program, stickin with that till i die

there sure is alot of pinging going on on my computer for some reason, i just re-booted my computer and every 5 to 10 seconds a "ping"alert comes up. i need to get a hardware firewall as well i guess just to make sure. i'll admit it, i'm paranoid
