Outdoors Geforce fx 5200ultra fan problems!

My brand new PNY Verto Geforce FX 5200 Ultra card's fan makes a loud buzzing noise that fades in and out! Does anyone know how to fix this and/or get a quick-install replacement fan? thanx!

Where did you get it? Sounds like RMA time to me!

Send a message via ICQ to Omardeth Send a message via Yahoo to Omardeth
check the wire for the fan maybe it is hitting it . also you might want to pull the sticker off the center of the fan and put a DROP of oil on it and put the sticker back on . kinda a waste to send a card back for rma for a noisy fan .

You can't as the fan axle doesn't stick up through the metal. Actually i don't even know if it is my VC fan. How would i determine this w/out wrecking the card?

I don't know how fast the fan on your card is, but for my TI 4200 I used my finger to stop the fan , and found out it was the fan that's making the noise. The fan on a video card shouldn't be stronge enough to cut you, but I can't guranteed that. So do it at your own risk.

Isn't that bad for the fan, though?

I’d just buy a thermaltake video cooler if it is your fan. They're one, if not, the best, cheap ($10), and the install is easy
1 flip the card over (so the heat sink is facing down)
2 squeeze the tension clips (2 pegs) together and through the board
3 flip the card back over and pull off the heatsink after unplugging the power connecter
4 add more thermal paste if needed
5 put the new heat sink in place and push down the 2 tension pegs
6 connect the power

So you ditch the old fan AND the old heatsink?
