Systems USB Mass Storage Drive, need help

Greetings,

I have just recently purchased an ibead mp3 player.
This basically works as an external storage device, I
have plugged this into various computers running XP
home edition and Windows instantly recognizes it as
an external USB Mass Storage Device and opens a
folder that you can then drag tracks/files into it.

For some reason my PC seems to be the only the one
that won't do this. Once i have connected it i go into
device manager and it shows the Mass Storage Device
there but it shows an exclamation mark meaning the
driver is not working. So i install the standard XP
Mass Storage Device driver and as soon as it has done
this my pc restarts????

I have also tried installing the actual drivers that
came with the mp3 player although i shouldn't need
to do this as it works fine with the windows external
storage device on other pc's, these also made the pc
restart.

Any suggestions anybody??? I am running an
Athlon XP 2400+ with 512mb ram on an ASUS
A7V8X-X motherboard if this is any help and it contains
4 USB ports on the motherboard.

This is a bit of a tricky one to answer without actually
seeing it i imagine but any help would be greatly
appreciated...

Welcome to techimo

thats a weird one but it sounds as though the driver might be corrupt. do you have any other usb devices you have issues with? im not gonna say to do a bios update yet but im just curious if something is strange with the usb ports on your mainboard(doubtful)

you might need to install the motherboard drivers too if you havent done so. which ibead too.................you never said.

ah yes. Its an ibead 150 and i just installed
the drivers for the motherboard and USB. I
just thought it was weird that the windows
driver for the external storage device is corrupt
as well.

I also have an external USB audio card, i did think
that maybe there was a clash there and someone
told me something about USB's having to run
on different port's or locations or something. Hmm,
I will try and uninstall the sound card and then try
the ibead again. Do you know anymore about
having to change any settings for the USB's or
whether you even have to?
