Business Network w/ T1 Questions

Hi,

I have one post out there about my home network, now here's my work network questions.

We are going to share a T1 line with another company. Right now our internet access is through an ISDN connection. What do I need to get the T1 setup as our new internet connection. I am totally new to this whole T1 thing. Our network is a TCP/IP network. The ISDN router handles the IP addresses and we assign each computer an IP from what's available. Make sense? Yeah, I'm no networking genius by any stretch of the imagination. Our "server" is running Windows 2003 Server and the computers are running either Win XP Pro or Win 2000.

Okay, what router will I need for the T1? How will I split the T1 between the two companies? Do I just get a network hub, plug the T1 into that and then the two routers into the hub? The other company hosts their e-mail and website on their server, we don't host ours in house.

Any help and info appreciated.

Depends on what they have to actually share with you. For example, they may share the T1 by simply giving you a port on their network hub or swtich and a valid public IP address.

Or they could mean you can lease data channels from their existing T1 so you would not need a physical T1 line installed. You may need your own route, or maybe not. They could offer you a connection on their router but not their network.

I think you will need to ask them more details about their offer to share the T1.
