Spyware detected.... anyone know how to fix it??

I've got a problem..... whenever I try to run Internet Explorer in Windows 98 the following message comes up:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

Is this due to spyware??? What is spyware and how do I delete it?? If anyone has any solutions, then post away..... I'm willing to listen to your advice!

Spyware would not cause that.. Spyware areprograms that run secretly on your computer and collect information. To get rid of spyware you could use SpyBot or Adaware. As far as the message you get when you open IE, how do you connect to the internet? Dial-up? Cable?

Conway, welcome to the fourm! T hat message means just what it says, you have lost the connection to you ISP.

It could be a variety of reasons, but not related to sypware. Start by powering down your modem and comp, and check all network cable connections. Cable can work loose over time.

After poweering back up, call your ISP to see if the server is down in your area.

These are the two main problems related to losing your connection.

BTW, how are you posting with not internet connection? Is this just related to one comp, but not another?

As far as removing spyware this free program is a good place to start: Spybot search and Destroy. Try Google it the link does not work.

makavelli... not to flame you or anything BUT i have seen spyware do that before.. DNS hijack and then DNS goes down.. or spyware sets up a proxy and the proxy dies or spyware tweaks the windows IP stack and hoses it in the process...

or maybe s/he just lost internet connection or the ISP's DNS broke...

conway...

can you access any sites by IP address?? and what operating system??

have you tried using nslookup to see if your dns settings are working??

can you ping localhost? you on broadband or dial up??

and oh yeah what's up with the attachment.. attachements are supposed to be for when you are trying to show something related to your post...

I have also seen spyware kill internet connections, but only after the spyware was removed and the network drivers were not repaired. Spybot can usually fix network drivers as a part of removing spyware. If you're not sure if spyware is causing the problem, then chances are you haven't removed anything so I doubt that would be the cause. Might try pinging a well-known site, such as yahoo or google. Also, running the Ipconfig command would tell you if your IP address is still valid or if you perhaps need to release/renew your IP.
Also, if you've got a cable modem, you should probably start by power-cycling your modem to see if that remedies the problem.
